The goal of Forestry and Noxious Weeds is to develop and implement policies, procedures and standards for efficient mapping, monitoring, enforcement, education and control of tree diseases, forest pests and noxious weeds.
- coordinates and monitors public and private control of tree diseases, forest pests and noxious weeds;
- represents the County at citizens’ groups, state and federal agencies, cities and advisory committees regarding forestry and noxious weeds;
- meets with public agencies and private owners to diagnose forest and weed problems and recommends appropriate controls; and
- enforces pest and weed control regulations when necessary.

El Paso County Forestry and Weed Advisory Commission
Advisory Commission meetings are held at 1:30 p.m. on the third Wednesday of every month. Advisory Commission members are all volunteers and the majority must own forty or more acres of land in the unincorporated portions of El Paso County. Each member shall be a resident of El Paso County for at least one year prior to Appointment. The nine (9) members of the Advisory Commission shall be appointed by the Board of County Commissioners.
The voting members of the Forestry and Weed Advisory Commission shall have five (5) members from each County Commissioners' districts; one (1) appointed at-large; one (1) shall be appointed from a recommendation by El Paso County Natural Resources Conservation District; one (1) shall be appointed from a recommendation from the El Paso County Farm Bureau; and one (1) shall be the El Paso County Commissioner Liaison representing the Board of County Commissioners. Advisory Commission voting members shall be appointed for terms of three (3) years and terms are limited to two (2) consecutively.
One (1) non-voting, technical representative from each of the following agencies attends regular meetings:
- Colorado State University Cooperative Extension
- El Paso County Forestry and Noxious Weed Division Manager
- Department of Transportation
- USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service
- El Paso County Parks Department
- City of Colorado Springs Code Enforcement
- Any other person requested by the Advisory Commission or Board of County Commissioners
