The department's motto is:
"SAFETY FIRST-CUSTOMER ALWAYS"
We are a department with 32 personnel that service, maintain, purchase, and rent vehicles and equipment to 22 departments/agencies within El Paso County.
Automotive Service Excellence(ASE) program: The Fleet Department implemented the program in November 2004. Currently, sixteen technicians are ASE certified with three technician Master Certified. As of July 2007 we have been recognized by Automotive Service Excellence as a Blue Seal Cerified Repair Facility.
The oil recycling collection point has been moved to 3255 Akers, Solid Waste Management, directly south of the Maintenance Facility.
This facility processed 4485 work orders for equipment repairs with 13 Technicians including two welders in 2007. That equals an average of 345 Work Orders per Technician and Welder within one year. Much of this is due to the aging fleet. It takes much more time and attention to detail to maintain older equipment. The equipment supported by this facility ranges from Weed Eaters and Lawn Mowers to Motorgraders and Bull Dozers. Within this range of equipment there are also several specialized pieces of equipment that we maintain as well which are Paint Striper, Bucket Trucks, Jetter Vac, and Fire Trucks, along with the Sheriff Departments Hazmat Vehicles, Bomb Truck & SWAT Vehicle.
This Main Facility consists of:
- 5 Offices Fleet Director, Fleet Superintendent, Administrative Coordinator, Logistics Coordinator, Environmental Coordinator
- Supply Room Work area for three personnel, 2 Supply Clerks and 1 Foreman
- Storage area for repair parts
- 22 Bays
- 2 bays for the Welding /Fabrication Shop, with 2 welders

The East Side garage located at 1010 Golden Street, Calhan, Colorado provides support and maintenance services to heavy vehicles, construction equipment, aggricultural and snow removal equipment.
Fleet Management operates its own welding/fabrication shop and a fully equipped auto body shop. The main shop has a repair parts supply room with over 4000 lines of stocked items.
The department implemented a comprehensive environmental program in 2003 that included used oil tanks for the citzens of El Paso county to dispose of used oil.
We have a Fleet Advisory Council that consist of volunteers from several county departments to solicit recommendations to improve the overall maintenance operation.
The Fleet Department auctioned surplus and aged vehicles/equipment using an auctioneer that advertises internationally. Using the internet as well to accept bids. Our Events page will list all equipment that is being sent to auction with the date and time of the auction.
The department uses a local wash facility within Colorado Springs to wash light vehicles. Heavy vehicles and construction equipment are washed at the main garage (Akers Dr. Complex).
