Engineering Design and Program Management Group
Within the Engineering Division, the Engineering Design and Program Management Group’s main areas of responsibility include Project Design, Pavement Management Analysis and Bridge Management. Specific tasks involve engineering design, planning and estimating projects including road rehabilitation, new roadway design, bridge design and rehabilitation, site planning, and evaluation and design of various types of drainage structures. All projects are designed to meet or exceed applicable local criteria and state and federal guidelines. “In-house” design typically involves scope and feasibility studies, planning and prioritizing of projects, coordination with other groups and with Highway Division, design of improvements, and plan production.
The group is comprised of three Professional Engineers ( John Clack , Rich Harvey , and Alissa Were), and two Computer-aided Design and Drafting Technicians ( Doug Norton and Kevin Dittman ). We utilize AutoCAD software and a wide variety of engineering software for design and plan production. With the new high-capacity plotter, the group is also capable of supporting a variety of other needs for the Department including production of exhibits and graphics for presentations.
Many of our design projects are completed in support of Highway Division construction projects identified on the Department’s scheduled program of work for each year. Projects are also identified through customer service requests, which are designed by the group and then either contracted, or may be constructed by Highway Division crews. New projects are prioritized based upon safety and urgency of repair. Frequent coordination is required with the Survey, Traffic Engineering/Transportation Planning, and Construction Management and Inspections groups before, during and after completion of the design process.
