Survey Group
A branch of the Engineering Division, the Survey Group provides surveying support throughout El Paso County. The Survey Group activities include topographic surveys for road, bridge, and drainage designs, right-of-way surveys for hazard elimination and construction activities, construction surveying for existing and new road, bridge, and drainage projects, and boundary surveys for existing county property and acquisition of private and public lands for infrastructure expansion.
The Survey Group is composed of a supervisor (Carl McClellan P.L.S.), and three field surveyors: (, Norm Humke, Rich Payne, and Dan Smith). The Survey Group uses survey grade Global Positioning Systems as well as conventional total stations and levels to collect the necessary data. Utilizing computers with survey and drawing programs, the Survey Group processes the collected data and provides topographic maps, easement, and/or right-of-way exhibits and legal descriptions, as well as specialized drawings.
