CURRENT INFORMATION
Stapleton Corridor Study Phase 2
The northeast area of El Paso County is predominately zoned for residential and rural residential. Until recently, approved residential lot sizes have varied from one-half to five-acre lots. Recent development plans have indicated a trend towards higher density urban lots along with some proposed major regional commercial development. The result of these existing and future developments will be a substantial increase in traffic.
As a response to growing transportation demand, El Paso County conducted the Stapleton Road/Judge Orr Road corridor alignment study. The study supported corridor preservation, local and regional plan updates, land acquisition and future construction of a proposed roadway extension. The overarching goal was to identify a preferred alignment that provides an efficient major roadway and minimizes adverse impacts to the community and environment.

Stapleton Road is ultimately intended to form an east-west major arterial link between Briargate Boulevard and I-25 on the west and Judge Orr and Curtis Roads to the east. Much of the location for this regionally significant alignment exists or has been previously determined. A refined alignment has been established for the key segment between the middle of the Bennett Ranch project through to U.S. 24 and then east to an as-yet undetermined connection existing Judge Orr or Curtis Roads.
The Stapleton corridor will be constructed in the future by development activity in the area, and by the use of Pikes Peak Rural transportation Authority funding.
