ASSET MANAGEMENT DIVISION

Asset Management:

The function of Asset Management is to research and develop analytical processes to determine the appropriate standards to guide the maintenance and replacement of County DOT infrastructure assets.  We also establish cost effective preventative maintenance measures, replacement cycles, and cost estimates for repairs or improvements.

Transportation Planning:

Transportation planning is responsible for the short and long-range multimodal regional planning of the County’s transportation system and for the implementation of many transportation programs.  Transportation planning supports the activities of the County Department of Transportation in the following ways:

  • Provide transportation planning expertise.
  • Be a partner in building consensus among the various local and regional transportation planning entities.
  • Monitor and participate in the Pikes Peak Area Council of Governments (PPACG) transportation planning efforts.
  • Monitor and participate in various corridor planning studies.
  • Promote and update the Major Transportation Corridors Plan.
  • Participate in the various application processes for obtaining federal and / or state funding and leveraging multiple funding sources.
  • Implement and monitor the Truck Route Plan in conjunction with the Truck Route Coordination Subcommittee (TRCS).

Truck Routes

Designated truck routes help protect neighborhoods by reducing noise, speed, air pollutants and the effect of heavy trucks on roadways that are not constructed to withstand day-to-day truck use. These routes allow for more effcient freight movement since the roads designated as truck routes can handle the heavier, longer and taller vehicles.

A subcommittee comprised of citizens, the local trucking community, the Colorado Motor Carriers Association, the military, the City of Colorado Springs, the City of Fountain, and representatives from the El Paso County Highway Advisory Commission meets quarterly to discuss the designation of future routes. Attached below is a truck route working document identifying existing and possible future truck routes.
