Traffic Engineering / Transportation Planning Group
The Traffic Engineering / Transportation Planning Group is responsible for transportation and traffic operations engineering, short- and long-range transportation planning, transportation data development /mapping, and technical support for other groups and other County departments. Much of the group’s work involves tracking and responding to emerging transportation needs such as coordinating with area agencies on regional transportation issues, and securing federal funding.
Group members are Jolene Leno, Engineering Technician; Jude Willcher, AICP, Principal Transportation Planner; and Dick Carlson, P.E., Engineering Supervisor.
We work with other Engineering groups to review new development projects, project design, and we assist with inspections and permitting activities. Our group performs GIS data development and analysis, travel forecasting, and traffic operations analysis. Lastly, we assist in department budget and reporting activities to ensure compliance with local, state and national mandates.
One of our group’s next major efforts is an update to the countywide Major Transportation Corridors Plan (MTCP), which will identify transportation needs for the next 30 years. The MTCP update will include development forecasts, project priorities and an extensive public participation process. Another major project will be to develop Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) applications for unincorporated areas, such as local weather monitoring for snowplow operations, coordinated signals along entire road corridors, and traffic cameras that provide real-time traffic information to the media and public
