Roadways Group
The Roadways Group is primarily responsible for the roadway’s surface, base course, and shoulders. It is comprised of a superintendent, four foremen and 45 maintenance workers who make up two asphalt road crews and two aggregate road crews.
- Asphalt Repair and Service Crew (2) – These crews are responsible for repairing potholes, patching large areas which require excavation, preparing road surfaces for new asphalt overlays, crack sealing and chip sealing. The 24 equipment operators use specialized asphalt trucks, asphalt distribution trucks, concrete saws, steel wheel rollers and other equipment.
- Grader Crew (2) – These crews are responsible for maintaining the aggregate road surfaces. The 24 equipment operators and their road graders are located at eight outposts throughout the county including Calhan, Peyton, Ellicott, Truckton, Fountain, Fox Run, Black Forest and the DOT Marksheffel facility. The roads are maintained by continuous smoothing, shaping, and cleaning of the ditches. These crews also perform dust control operations and re-gravelling of selected roads annually. In addition to the road graders, they operate water trucks, rubber tire rollers, and shouldering machines.
