Support Group

The Support Group provides both specialized and general support to the Roadway and Drainage Groups as they complete their maintenance and repair work. It is comprised of a superintendent, three foremen and 41 maintenance workers. Additionally, the Support Group has tasks that are their own primary responsibility.

  • Truck String – This crew provides the hauling support of materials required to complete construction, maintenance, and repair throughout the county. It is the largest crew with 26 operators that drive dump trucks, semi-tractors with low-boy trailers, water tankers, and belly dump trailers.
  • General Maintenance Crew – This crew installs and repairs fences, trims trees, keeps right-of-ways and roads clear of large debris and trash, mows the right-of-ways and operates the four highway sweepers that clear sand, leaves, and light trash off the road surfaces.
  • Signs and Signals Crew – This crew is primarily responsible for the safety of the motoring public, pedestrians, and construction crews. The crew does this by maintaining and repairing traffic lights, school crossing zones, warning signals, and all of the road signs along the county roads. Additionally, the crew stripes all of the roads and paints all roadway markings according to state and federal standards. This crew also operates portable signal lights and message boards, along with designing and manning large traffic work safety zones.
